Kia's third-generation Cee'd hits the road for the first time in disguise, with Rio-inspired looks expected

The hatchback sector moves quickly nowadays: here are the first images of Kia's next-generation Cee'd not long after the current car was facelifted. The Renault Megane rival is set to arrive in the second half of 2017.

The fresh Cee'd follows on from the recent launch of Kia's new Rio supermini. Even in this heavy disguise, it's evident that much of the design of the Rio has been adapted for the new Cee'd to create a homogenous look across Kia's lineup. Familiar thin LED headlights and a more upright bonnet can be spotted under the wrapping, as can the Korean brand's trademark 'Tiger Nose' grille.

Keen observers will spot a similar windowline to the 2017 Hyundai i30. It's not a coincidence - the two models will be heavily related once again as part of the Hyundai Group, with the Cee'd likely to use the i30's platform and much of the turbo petrol and diesel engine range.

Inside, we're expecting a jump in quality and technology to bring the Cee'd in line with the newer Sportage and Niro SUVs. As it is expected to share similar dimensions to the i30 with a longer, wider and lower body, the Kia's legroom and bootspace should increase as a result.

Details of the new Cee'd are thin on the ground so far - we're expecting to find out more in the next few months ahead of the car's likely unveil in the autumn next year.
